NetPC

NetPC
An initiative from Compaq, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, and Microsoft describing a networked PC designed to give system administrators greater control and security than a traditional PC.
Net PC is based on a minimum configuration of a 133MHz Pentium with at least 16MB of memory, running a Windows operating system, with a hard disk and the capability to run applications locally. The computer case is sealed and lockable, and floppy disks and CD-ROM drives are optional. All software distribution is centralized.
In 1998, America Online bought Netscape Communications and spun off the serverbased products to Sun Microsystems.
